How to prepare apple filling for shortcrust pastry baskets

Wash the apples, cut them in half and remove the core and stems. Next, you can cut it into cubes by hand, but for once I decided to use the Naiser-Dicer vegetable cutter my mother gave me. If you have one, now is the time to take it off the shelf!

Cut each half into layers approximately 5-7 mm thick and grate into small squares. It turns out quickly, just like in advertising. My child loves to do this.

If your baskets are already ready, you can immediately make the filling. I started with apples, so I sprinkled them with lemon juice to keep them from browning, covered them with a Nicer Dicer lid, and left them in the refrigerator while I made the dough.

When the baskets are ready, turn on the oven at 220 degrees and continue filling.

Add sugar, cinnamon and flour to the diced apples, mix well with a spoon or hands and place in the molds. Fill the molds with filling to the top, maybe even a small mound.

I already wrote above that there were 6 tablespoons of flour in the recipe, I decided to cut this amount in half and did not regret it. It already seemed to me that the filling was a little heavy due to the flour, next time I’ll put a maximum of one spoon for the bunch. And my husband liked it anyway.

Next, cut the chilled butter into equal squares according to the number of molds and place them on each basket of apples. Decorate the top with cross thin stripes if you have enough dough.

Place the baskets of apples into the preheated oven. The recipe is for 16-18 minutes, this time immediately seemed not enough to me, I set the timer for 20 minutes, then added another 10, lowering the temperature to 160 degrees. A total of 30 minutes and then another 10 with the oven turned off.

Shortcrust pastry baskets with apples are ready! Thin, crispy crust and juicy, cinnamon-flavored apple filling - maybe not very beautiful in appearance, but very tasty!

I recommend using silicone molds; they do not need to be greased and it is easier to remove fragile baskets from them so as not to break them.

I would be glad if you try it and share how it turned out for you. Lazy people can try making jellied pie with apples, but to be honest, of all the apple creations listed above, I like it the least. Apparently, I'm just not a fan of jellied pies. But I really liked the apple strudel made from this simple recipe and recommend it.

And I can definitely recommend another shortbread pie recipe, in this case with plums!

I recently found another version of shortcrust pastry for tarts and baskets, take a look.

I bid you farewell until the next experiments. Subscribe to the newsletter, share your thoughts in the comments, I’m always glad to see you on my blog!

Best regards, Galina
