Secrets of making jellied pie with cabbage

  • It is best to use young cabbage for the filling. Only then will it turn out homogeneous and tender. Old cabbage must first be thoroughly stewed in a frying pan.
  • Don't be afraid to experiment to vary the flavor of the filling. You can add whatever your heart desires to the cabbage: mushrooms, minced meat, boiled eggs or boiled (fried) onions. Never add raw onions as they will have an unpleasant crunch.
  • To make the dough soft and rich in flavor, add sour cream, kefir, cottage cheese or mayonnaise. Kefir and sour cream should not be fatty.
  • Watch the consistency of the dough. Don't make it too liquid or too hard. The ideal option for cabbage pie is moderately thick, similar to sour cream.
  • If you are making the lazy pie in the slow cooker rather than the oven, you will need to turn it over to ensure even baking. In this case, you should use a special steamer basket. You can place the cake on it, like on a stand, and turn it over at the right time.
  • If you decide that cabbage alone will not be enough for you, then you can safely add minced meat to the filling. By the way, it does not need to be pre-processed in a frying pan. But, if you wish, you can simmer the minced meat together with the cabbage so that it is saturated with its juice.

What kind of cabbage can be grown using the seedless method?

kohlrabi , white cabbage and Peking are most often grown without seedlings . Cauliflower and broccoli are more heat-loving and do not tolerate drops and temperature changes. You can sow them directly into the ground, but at a later date, when stable warm weather sets in.

Cabbage is a plant with a long period from germination to harvest. Therefore, in central Russia, it is advisable to sow early or mid-early varieties of cabbage using seedless methods. Later varieties may not have time to set good heads of cabbage.
