We are used to cakes being a sweet dessert. But waffle cakes can be lubricated not only with cream, but also with various products. This dish is reminiscent of puff salads.
Herring cake on waffle cakes: basic recipe
For execution we will need very simple ingredients: waffle shortcakes - package, one large lightly salted herring, 3 eggs, 2 carrots, 150 grams of hard cheese, Provencal mayonnaise - for coating, greens - for decoration.
Practical part
- Let the eggs and carrots boil.
- In the meantime, let's start cleaning the fish. It must be cut according to the type of fillet, removing the bones and removing the skin (of course, having first pulled out the insides and separated the head). Then cut the main product into small strips or cubes, whichever is more convenient for you.
- We wash our hands and remove the eggs and carrots from the water. Cool and clean. Cut into cubes finely or coarsely on a grater.
Assembling the dish
- Let's start assembling our herring cake. Add a few drops of mayonnaise onto the dish and place the first shortbread (just so it will stay flat better).
- Apply the first layer of mayonnaise, then half the amount of herring. Lightly coat with mayonnaise.
- Cover with cake again. We also spread it with mayonnaise, and grated carrots on top.
- Next, add the next cake layer, mayonnaise again, and sprinkle with egg.
- Let's repeat steps 2-4 again.
- Grease the top layer with mayonnaise and grate the cheese on top coarsely.
- You can decorate the top with pieces of egg and fresh chopped herbs.
- Let the herring cake soak (at least 3 hours in the bottom of the refrigerator). Now you can serve it to the table!
Korean carrot cake recipe
Thanks to the following recipe, you can prepare an airy and tender dish that will pleasantly surprise all guests and household members. So take note of this simple way to prepare a snack.
Ingredients:
- 6 waffle cakes;
- 1 can of sardine;
- 200 g Korean carrots;
- 200 g hard cheese;
- 4 eggs;
- Mayonnaise;
- Greenery.
Preparation:
- The first cake layer should be greased with mayonnaise. Then lay out half of the canned fish, having previously mashed them with a fork;
- After this, cover with a second cake layer, onto which we apply a mayonnaise mesh and add ½ part of Korean carrots (you can mix it with chopped walnuts), sprinkle a small amount of chopped herbs on top;
- The third cake layer also needs to be greased with mayonnaise. Grate the egg whites directly onto the dish on a fine grater to make the cake airy. Add some greens on top;
- We also coat the next waffle cake with homemade mayonnaise and distribute the rest of the fish over the surface;
- On the fifth cake layer, apply a mesh of mayonnaise and lay out the remaining Korean carrots, and sprinkle with herbs;
- On the last cake layer, coated with mayonnaise, grate hard cheese on a fine grater to make the appetizer very tender;
- Grease the sides of the cake with mayonnaise and decorate with herbs;
- Rub the yolks on top and add a few parsley leaves.
About mayonnaise
As you can see, quite a lot of such an ingredient as mayonnaise is used in the basic recipe. Therefore, of course, it must be of the highest quality. And if you do not tolerate various food additives, then you can always prepare it yourself using a blender - it’s not difficult. You will need vegetable oil (preferably olive), eggs, mustard. The more oil you add, the higher the percentage of fat content. All components of the homemade sauce should be placed in a blender and blended until thick. That's all - you can coat the cakes without any fear. Those who generally don’t like this ingredient in salads too much can be advised to coat the shortbreads in a small amount. Of course, they will be worse soaked, but the herring cake will become “dietary”, if this word is even applicable to this dish. Well, or at worst, take mayonnaise with a lower fat content (20-30%).
Waffles
As for the cake layers for the herring cake recipe, they can also be very different. From store-bought ones, it is best to choose a round shape. Or square, so that the whole structure looks like a cake. You can, of course, go all out and bake this ingredient yourself. As they say, the Internet can help you. But that's a completely different story.
Let's cook simply!
Let's take the same ingredients as for the classics. Namely: herring, carrots, beets, potatoes, mayonnaise, eggs. Let's just add waffle cakes.
We perform the following actions:
- Boil vegetables and eggs, cool and peel.
- All of the above boiled components are grated separately.
- We clean the herring from the skin and entrails. We remove the head and take out the bones, as for fillet. Then cut into cubes or strips.
- Place a round waffle crust on the prepared dish. Coat it with mayonnaise.
- On top is a layer of herring. Then - potatoes. And one more cake.
- Coat with mayonnaise again. A layer of carrots and beets. Cake and mayonnaise again.
- We repeat the sequence in the same order. Coat the topmost crust with mayonnaise and sprinkle with a layer of grated egg and cheese (you can do without it).
- To soak, place the cake at the very bottom of the refrigerator for three hours. Then we decorate it additionally (for example, with fresh herbs) and serve it on the table as an excellent appetizer - along with other salads.
How to make a snack cake?
The savory snack cake is easy to prepare and does not limit the choice of ingredients. As a base you can use waffle or puff cakes, pancakes, crackers, lavash. As for the filling, there is plenty of room to go wild: the cake layers are layered with fried vegetables, mushrooms, boiled eggs and chicken, salmon, cottage cheese and cheese.
- As a rule, fillings for snack cakes do not require heat treatment after formation, so it is important that they consist of high-quality and fresh ingredients.
- Meat snack cake is made from raw minced meat, so it must be baked in the oven.

Snack cake “Napoleon” is a salty interpretation of the legendary dessert. Unlike the latter, it is replete with filling options, and given the labor-intensive process of baking the cakes, it allows the use of store-bought ones. The only condition is a juicy filling, with it the cakes will be soaked faster and the cake will turn out soft and tender.

Snack lavash cake with mushrooms
Traditionally, lavash snack cake is filled with mushrooms. This is due to the ability of lavash to quickly become soaked and soggy, which is impossible with a juicy and non-watered mushroom filling. The mushroom juice stops the lavash from being “rubbery,” but it doesn’t turn into porridge, so the cake holds its shape perfectly and still acquires flavor.

- champignons - 550 g;
- cheese - 100 g.
- Fry mushrooms and onions and puree in a blender.
- Cut the pita bread into 8 squares.
- Place the filling on each and form a cake.
- Sprinkle with cheese.
- Bake the mushroom snack cake until the cheese melts.
With mushrooms
We will need the following ingredients. Salted herring – one (choose fattier ones, it’s good if with caviar or milk - the dish will only benefit). Onions - several medium-sized pieces, half a kilo of champignons, boiled carrots - several small ones, hard cheese - 150 grams (any favorite will do). Mayonnaise – 250 grams (it’s better to make it at home, of course, but you can also use a store-bought version), green onion, parsley, basil. Several olives (used to decorate the cake), waffle shortcakes - packaging.
Appetizer made from ready-made cakes with canned fish
You can adjust the next option for preparing a snack cake at your discretion. That is, in addition to canned food, you can use other products for filling. After all, experiments are welcome in the kitchen.
Ingredients:
- 1 can of canned fish;
- 1 jar of delicious capelin caviar;
- 2 carrots;
- 4 eggs;
- 150 g hard cheese;
- 300 g mayonnaise.
We will also need ready-made waffle cakes for the Napoleon cake.
Preparation:
- To assemble the dish you will need a flat rectangular plate. If you don’t have such utensils, you can form the cake directly on the table and then transfer it to a plate;
- Coat the first cake layer with a small amount of mayonnaise. Mash the canned food with a fork and mix it with mayonnaise; I recommend using homemade mayonnaise, the recipe for which you can find in the next article. Distribute the canned food evenly over the first waffle layer;
- At the next stage, we need to grate the boiled carrots, add chopped garlic cloves (optional), a small amount of grated cheese and mayonnaise. Mix everything and put it on the second cake layer, with which we cover the first layer. It also needs to be lightly coated with homemade mayonnaise;
- Cover the appetizer with the third cake layer, greased with mayonnaise. Place grated eggs mixed with mayonnaise on it;
If you wish, you can change the order of the layers and also use other ingredients for the filling.
- We grease the last waffle cake with smoked capelin caviar. We put the appetizer in the refrigerator for several hours so that it is well soaked and becomes softer;
- After this, sprinkle the dish with grated cheese.
All that remains is to decorate the dish before serving. To do this, you can use various vegetables. Be creative. Bon appetit!
Preparatory work
- Boil the carrots in advance and let them cool.
- Fry the champignons with the onions, not too coarsely chopped.
- Clean the herring as you would a fillet: remove the skin, take out the fins with bones, and separate the backbone.
- Grind the fillet and 1 peeled onion in a blender.
- Grate the carrots.
- Grind the cooled mushrooms in a blender.
- We grate the cheese finely, and chop the greens and olives into small pieces.
Assembly
- On the first waffle cake, carefully place the chopped herring with onions, distribute it evenly over the surface, greasing it with mayonnaise.
- On the 2nd cake layer, place fried mushrooms and onions, coat generously with mayonnaise and cover with the next cake layer.
- It comes with carrots. We also soak it in mayonnaise.
- After this layer, repeat the steps: herring/mushrooms/carrots. And thoroughly crush the last layer with carrots with grated cheese, greasing it with mayonnaise.
- Decorate the herring cake with olives and chopped herbs. By the way, if you still have some filling left, you can repeat the layers. It will be much tastier this way!
- We send the finished product to the bottom of the refrigerator to let it brew for several hours. There the cake will soak, settle a little, and become quite ready to be served on the festive table. By the way, instead of herring you can use mackerel and large herring. And the dish with smoked fish looks very interesting.

Snack cake made from waffle cakes with chicken and mushrooms
If you need to organize a festive table, then be sure to prepare a bright and colorful dish that all guests will appreciate after the first spoon. Just look how beautiful it turns out.
Ingredients:
- 300 g mushrooms;
- 300 g chicken fillet;
- 7 cakes;
- 50 g mayonnaise.
- 150 g mayonnaise;
- Parsley;
- 30 g hard cheese;
- 1 pomegranate.
Preparation:
- Pre-fry the mushrooms in a frying pan until the moisture has completely evaporated. Then mix them with a small amount of mayonnaise and grind them in a blender bowl to make a pate;
- The chicken must be fried in advance with the addition of pepper, salt and onions. When the fillet has cooled, mix it with mayonnaise and also grind it with a blender to a puree mass;
- Lightly grease the bottom of the mold with mayonnaise. Lay out the waffle cake and apply 1/3 of the chicken pate;
- Cover with the next cake layer and press it lightly. Distribute 1/3 of the mushroom pate evenly;
- Repeat layers until you run out of ingredients. Cover with the last layer of cake, and then coat the dish with mayonnaise on top and sides. Place in the refrigerator for literally half an hour;
- Now let's start preparing the appetizer. To do this, place a small diameter ring in the center and lay out pomegranate seeds. After that, we make a rim of mayonnaise. We also place parsley leaves on the surface, and along the very edge of the cake we apply drops of mayonnaise, onto which we fix the remaining pomegranate seeds.
