Beef ribs stewed in a slow cooker with potatoes
Do you want something new, but don’t want to bother with cooking in the kitchen? Our simple and delicious recipe for the whole family will help you! Beef ribs in a slow cooker, stewed with potatoes, turn out to be very aromatic, and the meat on the bone acquires softness and a rich taste.
Before you decide to take note of our recipe, be prepared for the fact that veal ribs in a slow cooker take a very long time to cook - about two hours, so calculate the time of serving the dish in advance. But you will need very little physical effort!
In order to prepare stewed beef ribs with potatoes, you will need the following products:
Ingredients:
Beef ribs | – 600 gr. |
Potato | – 8-10 pcs. |
Onion | - 1 PC. |
Carrot | - 1 PC. |
Garlic | – 2-3 cloves |
Vegetable oil | – for frying |
Salt | - taste |
Spices | - taste |
The specified amount of products will yield 8-10 servings.
The dish will be tasty and extremely filling - 1 serving of the finished dish will contain as many as 350 calories. What you need, especially in winter, when when you come home, you don’t want cold okroshka, like in the summer, but, on the contrary, something more satisfying and hot.
The photo recipe is in front of you. Just repeat after us, and in a couple of hours you will have a hot, appetizing dish on your table that adults and children will appreciate.
Step 1
We rinse the ribs under cold running water, thoroughly removing any contaminants. Cut into portions.
Note: you can use not only beef, but also a combination of pork and beef ribs. True, in this case the dish, of course, will be even more high-calorie, so if you are watching your weight, limit yourself to beef ribs.
Step 2
We activate the “Frying” or “Baking” mode on the multicooker, wait until the bowl warms up well and pour in vegetable oil. Then lay out the beef ribs and fry for 15-20 minutes, just so that the meat “sets”. Thus, when stewing, it will not lose a drop of tasty juice and will remain juicy.
In the meantime, you can cook the vegetables.
Note: if you have a silicone brush or a disposable towel, it is better to distribute the oil with their help - the meat on the ribs itself is fatty, and you should not weigh it down with extra oil. By using the above devices, you will reduce the amount of oil to a minimum for the benefit of yourself and your loved ones.
Step 3
We wash the potato tubers, carrots and onions under water.
We clean all vegetables from peels and suspicious dark spots. An exception is made only for young potatoes, which simply need to be washed well and scrubbed with a brush to remove dirt.
We cut the potatoes into large slices - if desired, the recipe can of course be changed and cut a little smaller or, conversely, larger potato tubers. But remember, you shouldn’t chop it, because the potatoes will simmer for at least an hour and a half, and too small pieces will turn into mashed potatoes.
Finely chop the onion on a cutting board, but onion lovers can cut the onion into thin rings.
Carrots can be grated or cut into slices - it all depends on your imagination.
Step 4
First add onions to the fried ribs. Fry for 10 minutes and add grated carrots, stir the dish being prepared, and continue to fry for another 10 minutes.
Add salt and spices to taste. Don't forget to add garlic, previously crushed using the flat side of a knife blade and cut into small pieces.
Note: do you want beef ribs in a slow cooker to be even tastier? Before frying, marinate them in soy sauce with any meat seasoning and leave them in the refrigerator for a couple of hours. You can use ready-made seasonings for meat or create your own, unique combination of spices; for example, a mixture of peppers, paprika, cumin, turmeric, oregano and marjoram go well with beef ribs.
Step 5
Place the potatoes in a multi-cooker and add hot boiled water so that it covers the ribs and potatoes.
Close the multicooker lid and switch to the “Stew” mode. The time it takes to prepare a delicious lunch is 1 hour 30 minutes.
While cooking, periodically taste the dish, because not a single recipe will tell you the exact number of minutes of cooking in your particular multicooker model.
Important: you can add cold water to the multicooker, but in this case the cooking time increases to 2 hours 30 minutes. .
That's all. We hope you liked our recipe for flavorful ribs with potatoes, and it will go to your treasury of goodies.

Cooking features
Simply putting food in a multicooker and turning on the appropriate program is not always enough to prepare a truly tasty dish. Experienced chefs do not hide how they manage to make soft, tender and satisfying pork ribs with potatoes in a slow cooker.
- The main secret is in choosing the main product. It is better to take pork ribs that are meaty, but with a sufficient amount of fat. In this case, preference should be given to the meat of a young pig rather than an old pig. Young pork has white lard, old pork has yellowish lard.
- If meat is defrosted incorrectly, it loses its juiciness. Therefore, if you want to cook a dish from frozen brisket in a slow cooker, you need to remove it from the freezer in advance. Place the brisket in the refrigerator and remove from it only when the meat is thawed. Otherwise, you risk getting dry meat, which will ruin the taste of the entire dish.
- If you pre-marinate the pork ribs, they will come out more juicy and flavorful. You can marinate pork in wine, kefir, beer, mineral water, mayonnaise, soy-honey or honey-mustard sauce. In all cases, the dish turns out tasty and fragrant, but it is important that the taste and aroma of the sauce and spices are in harmony with the taste of the vegetables with which the pork ribs are stewed. Therefore, if you do not have much culinary experience, it is better not to experiment, but to follow the recommendations in the chosen recipe.
- Pork ribs and potatoes are prepared in a multicooker using the “Multicook” program, however, this function is not available in all units. If the above program is not available, use the “Stewing” or “Baking” program. Based on the directions in the recipe.
- If you first fry the ribs and only then stew them with vegetables, they will turn out more juicy.

Features of cooking in different multicookers
In multicookers from Redmond and Polaris, ribs with potatoes turn out equally tasty. Multicookers from both companies have fairly large bowls for preparing a large number of servings, and also ensure uniform heating of food on all sides.
To cook meat with vegetables, only one program is required - “Baking”, so there is no need to put forward any special requirements for this technique. Both companies equip their products with bowls with a non-stick coating, which makes cleaning easier and prevents sticking.
They also have the function of automatically keeping food warm. So, if you can’t eat ribs with potatoes right away, they won’t become any less tasty after a few hours.

Nuances of cooking in a slow cooker: Redmont, Polaris
The subtleties of cooking largely depend on the technical characteristics of the oven. Today, some appliances are equipped with special programs that allow you to simultaneously fry and bake, stew and cook. All these nuances are usually specified in the instructions for multicookers, and it is better to carefully study them before starting culinary creativity.
Some multicookers, say Polaris, cook ribs in 30-40 minutes, and others for a whole hour. It all depends on the power. The result, the taste, can be radically different, so housewives often experimentally study the capabilities of the pan.
But preparing pork ribs is very simple in any case: they do not require fuss, and the result is always excellent. Don't be afraid to experiment: bake them with peas, beans, zucchini or eggplant, change the spices and treat yourself to a hearty meat dish.
Ingredients
Pork ribs | – 1/2 kg. |
Potato | – 6 pcs. |
Onion | - 1 PC. |
Carrot | - 1 PC. |
Sunflower oil | – for frying |
Bay leaf | - 2 pcs. |
Salt | - taste |
Pepper | - taste |
Dried dill | - taste |
Step 1
Rinse the pork ribs under running water. Cut into portions. Add oil to the multicooker bowl.
Please note: ribs are far from a dietary product; during the frying process, they release quite a lot of juice and fat. . Therefore, you should not pour as much oil into the bowl as you would use for regular frying of vegetables.
You really only need a few drops.
Therefore, you should not pour as much oil into the bowl as you would use for regular frying of vegetables. You really only need a few drops.
To ensure that such a small amount is evenly distributed over the entire surface, use a silicone culinary brush.
Next, select the “Baking” program, place the meat in the bowl and fry it for 10 minutes on one side, after which each piece must be turned over and fry the same amount on the other side.
If you are not in a hurry and can afford to stretch out the process of preparing stewed potatoes with pork ribs, you can pre-marinate the meat. You can choose any marinade recipes, it all depends on your imagination.
Step 2
Peel the onion and chop it. Add to the bowl with the meat and fry for about five minutes.
Step 3
Wash the carrots from dirt and peel them. You can cut the carrots into strips or grate them - choose the option that you can handle faster. Add chopped carrots to the rest of the ingredients.
Step 4
Recipes recommend stewing potatoes in large pieces. Ours is no exception. Large pieces will not boil over or turn into puree during the heat treatment process, and the dish will look aesthetically pleasing.
Therefore, washed and peeled potatoes need to be cut fairly large - into quarters - and placed in a bowl.
Step 5
Pour a little less than half a liter of warm water into the bowl. Season the dish with salt and pepper, add bay leaf and dried dill.
If desired, you can use other spices, depending on the taste of the dish you want to achieve. Suneli hops will make any food hot and spicy, dried basil and rosemary will provide a Mediterranean touch, soy sauce and ginger will provide a slight hint of Asian cuisine.
If all these recipes do not make you want to stick to a specific direction, but you want to diversify the taste, add neutral spices to the bowl: turmeric, coriander, paprika.
Recipes also differ regarding the cooking program. Some sources indicate the “Baking” mode, others insist on the “Stewing” course.
These programs differ in the way the product is processed: in the first case, intensive heat treatment occurs, and in the second, it is rather simmering.
What choice to make is up to you, we cooked in the “Stew” mode, and the result pleased us with the most tender pork ribs and crumbly potatoes.
If you are not concerned about counting calories, and you do not care about the fat content of the dish, you can add a few tablespoons of sour cream or cream to the multicooker bowl at the beginning of the mode.
The light creaminess, silky texture of the stewed potatoes and delicate gravy will be a pleasant reward.
