A recipe for excellent wheat porridge with milk in a slow cooker. Wheat porridge in a slow cooker with milk

Delicious Poltava porridge is obtained in a slow cooker of any model, but Poltava porridge is cooked somewhat differently than other porridges. There is one important and interesting point that I came across.

I cooked Poltavka porridge in a Panasonic multicooker and in a Redmond multicooker. In Panasonic, the Milk porridge mode is set by default, that is, this mode is touch-sensitive and the microprocessor itself determines the readiness of the porridge; almost always the cooking time for milk porridge in Panasonic is about an hour.

But in Redmond, Milk porridge can be cooked for different times, and this time is set manually. If I press this button, the time is 33 minutes. But during this time, Poltavka cereal, unlike other cereals, did not have time to cook in the slow cooker. Why?

We need to figure out what Poltava cereal is made from. Outwardly, it is similar to barley, only the grind is coarser, and to pearl barley. But in fact, poltavka is made from wheat, that is, in essence it is wheat porridge. Just like bulgur, here is a recipe for bulgur in a slow cooker.

And the main secret to properly preparing Poltavka porridge is to give it a chance to brew, and a slow cooker is best suited for this. And if you are preparing porridge from Poltavka in the morning, then you can cook it in the evening, overnight it will infuse, swell and only get better. If you want to use the porridge with a delayed start, then set the timer so that the porridge is cooked 1 hour earlier than the allotted time, so it will infuse during this hour.

Proportions of Poltava porridge in a slow cooker:

For 4 servings 1 part (multi-cup) Poltava cereal 2 parts (multi-cup) water 2 parts (multi-cup) milk of any fat content Pinch of salt

How to cook Poltava porridge in a slow cooker

Poltava cereals need to be washed until clean, that is, so that the water with which the cereal is poured becomes transparent.

Place the washed Poltava cereal in a bowl, pour water + milk into it and add salt.

If there is a high probability that your multicooker model does not work adequately on “Milk porridge,” then you can put a steaming basket in the bowl, which will prevent the lid from splashing. Or you can grease the edges of the bowl above the level of the products with butter.

Poltava porridge in a Panasonic multicooker

Select the “Milk porridge” mode of the same name and press start.

Poltava porridge immediately after opening the Panasonic lid:

You need to stir it with a silicone spatula and let it brew. This is what Poltava porridge looks like after it has been heated:

Poltava porridge in a multicooker Redmond

Press the “Milk porridge” button, select 33-35 minutes, press Start. Then let it brew for about 30-60 minutes.

Poltava porridge in the Polaris multicooker

Press the “Milk porridge” button, the time will be 35 minutes. Press Start and let it sit on heat for a while.

Freshly cooked Poltava porridge and infused Poltava porridge after cooking are very different in texture. So either prepare the poltavka in advance, or leave it to warm up.

You will find all the porridges in the “Porridges in a slow cooker” section.

Useful tips

The dish will turn out especially tasty if you use the recommendations on how to cook wheat porridge correctly:

  1. Wheat groats can be finely crushed, for example, “Artek”, or whole. Crushed cereal produces a porridge that is homogeneous in consistency, more like a puree. Crumbly can be prepared from whole.
  2. You won’t get a tasty porridge if you don’t prepare the cereal properly for cooking. Wash the wheat thoroughly, as even just a little mulch will make the dish sticky and ruin its taste.
  3. You can reduce the number of calories if you cook the porridge with water rather than milk. Instead of butter, use olive oil.
  4. The taste of milk wheat porridge will improve significantly if you add steamed raisins, dried apricots, prunes, finely grated orange zest, nuts - walnuts, cashews, hazelnuts, almonds or pumpkin.
  5. Wheat porridge is great as a side dish for meat or fish. It will turn out to be an independent dish if you cook wheat together with fish, meat, mushrooms with the addition of seasonings and herbs.
  6. Many multicookers have a “Delayed Start” program, which allows you to delay the start of cooking by several hours. Using this function, you will receive a ready-made dish for breakfast, adding all the ingredients the night before. Load all the products specified in the recipe into the bowl, set the “Porridge” or “Milk porridge” mode. After this, use the timer to select after how many hours the multicooker should start cooking.

Since ancient times, the Slavs have known wheat cereal, which they ate on weekdays and holidays, treated guests, and added butter, meat or vegetables to it. Today, cereals are not so popular, but it is worth diversifying your diet to get the benefits. The best way to prepare porridge from wheat grains is in a slow cooker, which reduces the housewife’s time costs.

Useful tips

The peculiarity of a multicooker lies in the cooking process. According to the principle of operation, it does not boil the porridge, but simmers it. Everything happens due to steam, which affects the products from all sides. It is this fact that insures multicooker owners against burning.

The main thing in the cooking process is to use the advice of famous chefs.

  • When purchasing wheat in a store, your preference should be given to cereals in sealed packaging, preferably in cellophane. A strong wrapper protects the cereal from the adverse effects of the environment. An ordinary cardboard box is not able to protect the product, as a result of which the wheat can become bitter.
  • In addition, when choosing, you should pay attention to the color of the product. High-quality cereals have a light brown tint. A darker color indicates poor quality wheat. When studying the color of the product, it is necessary to check the presence of small debris in the form of pebbles and cake in the packaging. Good cereal will not contain such debris.
  • Common types of wheat – Artek and Poltavskaya – are quite often found on store shelves. Small grains of Artek are ideal for baby porridge. It easily fits into a child’s diet, is easily accepted by the child’s body and enriches it with useful substances. "Poltavskaya" is sold in the form of whole grains of medium and large sizes. The medium size is suitable for an adult’s porridge, and large grains can be used to prepare a dressing for soup.

  • The quality of the prepared porridge is fully influenced by the multicooker itself and the program included in it. In some cases, you can deviate from the existing recipe and do some improvisation, adding, for example, not three glasses of milk, but two and a half.
  • To obtain a richer and more refined taste of wheat porridge, you can substitute the ingredient. Replace some of the required amount of milk with cream.
  • To prepare high-quality porridge, you should use homemade cow's milk. It contains no harmful substances or chemical additives.

  • To make wheat porridge with milk special, you can add variety to the recipe and add additional ingredients, such as honey, pumpkin or raisins. This small contribution to the dish will allow you to experience the taste familiar from childhood.
  • Introducing wheat porridge into the diet of children should be done with extreme caution. This is especially true for the first feeding. Many features of wheat cereal can negatively affect the baby’s digestive system.

Cooked crumbly and aromatic wheat cereal is highly nutritious, quickly restores strength after a hard day, and is indispensable for physically working people. It contains slow carbohydrates and proteins. It is worth converting it to regular consumption, diversifying it with meat, stew, pumpkin or raisins. Unsweetened porridge (with cracklings, mushrooms, fish) is taken for lunch or dinner, and sweet porridge for breakfast.

Cooking wheat porridge in a slow cooker begins with selecting products and preparing them. It is worth knowing that there are two varieties of wheat cereals - Poltava and Artek. Poltavskaya is whole or coarsely crushed grains, and Artek is finely crushed particles. For a side dish, it is better to use coarsely crushed Poltava, because it does not boil down to puree and retains the consistency and desired viscosity.

Wheat porridge in a multicooker Redmond

To make delicious wheat porridge in the Redmond multicooker, you need to maintain the correct proportion - two glasses of water per glass of cereal. Wash the grains, remove husks and debris, pour into the bottom of the bowl and season with butter and salt. You need to fill the food with hot milk or water, select the “Rice” or “Buckwheat” mode. Option 4: Wheat porridge in the Polaris multicooker with chicken

Hearty porridge with chicken, with sour cream and garlic sauce - this is exactly how the children were initially fed in the famous pioneer camp. You can cook the side dish and meat separately, but we offer you a simplified version in which all the products are stewed in a slow cooker at the same time.

Ingredients

:

  • one medium-sized carrot and one onion each;
  • oil, refined - two and a half tablespoons;
  • “Artek” cereal (wheat) - 330 grams;
  • a handful of dill;
  • broth - 1300 milliliters;
  • large chicken;
  • salt and a set of ground peppers.

Step by step recipe

You can purchase chicken already in the form of goulash, cut it yourself from the legs or thighs, but, undoubtedly, the best option for our purposes is to cut up the bird carcass yourself. Separate the wings and breast, the first will go into the broth, and we will add the breast by weight last. We remove the skin, cut the meat from the legs and thighs into large chunks and weigh it, add the required amount of white pulp. Wash and blot with a rag, cut into small pieces.

Fill the wings, rib and back parts of the carcass with two liters of water and cook for about an hour, lowering the lid. We catch and remove the bones, strain and salt the broth.

After peeling the vegetables, we dissolve them into short strips for sautéing; the root vegetable can be grated to make it easier. Heat the oil in a bowl that has been washed after cooking the broth, simmer the sliced vegetables for a couple of minutes in the “Baking” mode, drop the chicken into the bowl and count fifteen minutes.

After washing the cereal several times, add it to the meat and vegetables, pour in the hot broth and stir. Select the pilaf cooking function and lower the lid. After the device has finished operating in the specified program, switch it to heating. Stir the porridge, add salt and pepper to the required level, let stand for a quarter of an hour or longer.

How to cook wheat porridge

To make the dish tasty, you need to follow the recommendations. The most important thing is that the proportion of grain and water should be 1:3. At the same time, milk porridge is also boiled in water. In this option, milk acts as an auxiliary component, which is added in small quantities.

Housewives advise washing any cereal, regardless of the type. If you do not wash it, an inconspicuous flour dust will remain on the grains. When the cereal begins to cook, the dust will turn into a slimy and tasteless mass.

Fact! You can improve the taste in different ways. Vegetables, boiled meat or fish are perfect. You can season it not only with spices and oil, but also with sweet fruits, sugar, and jam.

It is also important to remember that it is better not to stir the cereal when cooking. Otherwise, the consistency will be compromised, resulting in the dish being overcooked.

You can find out about readiness by the characteristic funnels. Immediately after they appear on the surface, remove the pan.

In a slow cooker

The easiest way to cook porridge is to use a slow cooker. The kitchen appliance itself will determine after what time the dish will be cooked

But it is important to remove the cereal in time, otherwise it will be overcooked and lose its taste.

First you need to rinse the grains. They are then dried and added to the container. To maintain exact proportions, it is advisable to use a measuring cup. The millet is salted, the multicooker is closed and the appropriate mode for the cereal is pressed. Once the porridge is ready, you can add vegetable oil or butter.

Crumbly on the water

The next simple option is millet cooked in water. It doesn't take much time to prepare it. Typically, cooking takes 20 minutes.

As in the previous method, the cereal needs to be washed and filled with water. The approximate ratio is 1:3, but for larger liquids you can use a ratio of 1:4. The millet and water are brought to a boil, salted and the temperature is reduced. You need to wait another 10-15 minutes, and then cover with a lid and wrap until fully cooked.

With milk

You can diversify the dish with milk. Then new macroelements will be added to the beneficial properties of the cereal. The proportions are the same as in other options.

First, pour the millet with water, bring to a boil and then cook for 20 minutes. Add milk to the cooked porridge. Then you need to cook for 5-10 minutes until craters appear.

Wheat porridge with pumpkin

You can increase nutritional value and beneficial properties with pumpkin. The cooking process is no different from other methods. It will require:

  • high-quality wheat cereal;
  • pumpkin pulp (200 g);
  • butter (40-50 g);
  • 250 ml milk;
  • 200 ml water;
  • salt and sugar to taste.

The pumpkin peel is removed, and the fruit itself is cleared of seeds from the core. Next, you need to finely chop the pulp into cubes. Pour 200 ml of water into it and cook for 15 minutes. You can check readiness with a fork or knife.

Add millet to the pulp and wait 20 minutes. At the last stage, milk is poured in, salt and spices are added to taste. After adding these ingredients, you need to cook for another 5-10 minutes.

Wheat porridge with meat

If you add meat, wheat will be more beneficial. It should be chosen based on your health status. Diabetics should avoid fatty foods and take a closer look at low-calorie poultry meat. To prepare you need to take:

  • good cereal 250g;
  • pork meat 350g;
  • vegetable oil;
  • half a liter of water;
  • spices and salt to taste.

The grain is washed, filled with water and placed in a saucepan. As soon as the water boils, you need to add a little salt and wait 30 minutes. At this time you can start eating meat. It is cut into pieces and fried in a frying pan until crusts appear. During frying, stir lightly. Next, you need to reduce the heat and fry for another 15 minutes. Afterwards the meat is stewed for half an hour and added to the main dish.
