Hake cooked in a slow cooker in tomato sauce with vegetables is tasty, healthy and quick. The sauce will give the somewhat dry fish the necessary juiciness, and the vegetables and herbs will add piquancy.
Ingredients:
- frozen hake – 1 kg
- tomato paste - 150-200 g
- onion - 1 pc.
- bell pepper - 1 pc.
- salt - to taste
- water – 250 ml
- dill
Bell peppers add a special flavor to tomato sauce. If you take fresh, one large pepper with fleshy pulp is enough; if frozen, it is better to increase the quantity. Fresh herbs can be replaced with more spicy dried dill seeds (if necessary, they can be ground in a shaker or coffee grinder).
How to cook hake in a slow cooker
We wash the fish in cool water (if you managed to take whole carcasses, then first clean and cut them).
Cut into large pieces and place in the multicooker bowl.
Cut the onion into half rings and add it to the fish.
Place chopped peppers in a bowl.
Add tomato paste.
Lastly add chopped dill and salt.
Pour a glass of cold water and stir.
Cover the multicooker with a lid and select the “Stew” or “Soup” mode. The hake will be ready in 40–45 minutes.
To make the sauce thicker, you can add flour to it, previously brought to golden brown in a dry frying pan and diluted with cold water (2-3 tablespoons of water per 1 tablespoon of flour; add 5-10 minutes before the dish is ready). Serve the stewed hake in tomato sauce hot: place on a plate, pour over the sauce, evenly distributing the pieces of pepper and onion. It is useful to eat any fish with fresh herbs: you can twist small roses from lettuce leaves, placing them between the pieces.
This fish is very healthy. Nutritionists often recommend it to people losing weight due to its low fat content and low cost. However, not every housewife chooses it for fear of drying it out. Below are the best recipes in a slow cooker, where the hake comes out juicy and has the same quality as a professional.

demetraps.ru
Today I’ll tell you about my recipe for preparing a delicious hake dish, although you can use this simple recipe as a basis for preparing any fish, be it sea or river. So, baked hake in a slow cooker
with onions in mayonnaise and yogurt sauce.
I found a recipe for delicious hake from my mother. She first cooks fried hake, pollock or pieces of small catfish in a frying pan. Then he layers the fish with fried onions in a deep frying pan, saucepan or roasting pan with a lid and simmers it with sauce. The sauce for stewed hake can be sour cream or sour cream with mayonnaise, mixed with salt, pepper and various seasonings.
Well, as always, I’m experimenting in my kitchen and trying to present a simple and accessible recipe for a delicious dish, today it will be baked hake in a slow cooker with an interesting sauce (for those who don’t have a slow cooker, I advise you to prepare this recipe for stewed hake on the stove or baked in the oven ).
For the baked hake recipe you will need:
- Fresh frozen hake – 34 fish without heads,
- Onions – 2-3 heads,
- Classic yogurt without fillers (I took a glass of Activia yogurt) or sour cream,
- Mayonnaise - 2 tablespoons (can be completely replaced with sour cream, but it tastes better),
- Salt, pepper, spices for fish - to taste,
- Ground ginger - a pinch,
- Vegetable oil for sautéing onions,
- Water.
How to cook hake in a slow cooker
Before cooking, hake or pollock must thaw, then wash the fish and remove tails and fins. Cut the prepared fish into portioned pieces, no need to chop, 3-4 pieces will be enough. Hake needs to be salted and seasoned with spices.
Only onions will be fried in this recipe; the hake in a slow cooker with sauce will be baked or stewed (as you prefer). So, on the “baking” or “frying” program (my Panasonic multicooker does not have the latter function), with the lid open, saute the chopped onions in vegetable oil. Whoever likes it: rings, half rings or feathers (I generally chopped quarters). Remove the fried onions from the multicooker.
There is no need to wash the multicooker bowl after frying the onions; just place hake pieces rolled in flour directly into it.
Make a sauce from yogurt, mayonnaise, salt, spices and ground ginger (I used dry ginger powder).
and cover the hake pieces with it. Place the fried onion on top of the fish, add a little water (approximately as in the photo) and switch the multicooker to the “baking” mode. The cooking time for hake in a multicooker in this mode will be 35 minutes if the fish is laid in 1 layer.
After the signal, open the lid of the multicooker and voila: delicious baked hake is ready!
We transfer the fish to a dish and serve, it’s very tasty both hot and cold!
Hake in sauce according to this recipe turns out juicy, tender and tasty, I recommend it.

Cooking features
There are not so many secrets to cooking hake in a slow cooker, but they are all equally important.
- Even the best chef will not be able to prepare a tasty dish from low-quality fish. Therefore, when purchasing, you need to pay attention to the appearance of the hake. If its carcasses are deformed, the fillet is broken into pieces, and there is a lot of snow and ice in the bag, it is better to refuse the purchase. All these factors indicate that the fish has already been thawed and frozen again once (or even more). In this case, she has lost a lot of fluid, so she cannot regain her juiciness. In addition, there is no guarantee that such a product is not spoiled or hazardous to health.
- You need to defrost hake, avoiding sudden temperature changes. Do not immerse it in warm or room temperature water or heat it in the microwave. It is better to let the fish thaw on the top shelf of the refrigerator. Then it will be as juicy as fresh.
- When cutting fish yourself, be sure to remove the black film inside - it gives the fish bitterness. You probably guessed it yourself that the tail and fins will not decorate your dish either.
