Oven-baked cabbage: how to cook

  1. Shred half a small forkful of white cabbage into thin strips. If the cabbage from the previous harvest is hard, you will need to transfer it to a bowl, add a pinch of salt and mash it with your hands.
  2. Grate the peeled and washed carrots on a coarse grater.
  3. Peel a medium-sized onion and cut into small cubes.
  4. Place the prepared vegetables (onions and carrots) in a bowl with cabbage.
  5. Salt and pepper to taste (you can add your favorite spices), pour in vegetable oil and mix thoroughly.
  6. Advice. If you use aromatic homemade oil (there are five options for preparing it on our website), the taste of the finished dish will be much brighter.
  7. Place the cabbage and vegetables into a baking sleeve and place two bay leaves on top.
  8. We tie the bag, make two small punctures, and place it on a baking sheet.
  9. Place in the oven, preheated to 200 degrees, for 30-40 minutes.

Cabbage with chicken in the sleeve: step-by-step cooking process

  1. Wash the chicken meat, dry it and place it in a bowl. Add to it all the spices (according to the recipe), half a teaspoon of salt and garlic cloves passed through a press.
  2. Pour in refined vegetable oil (two tablespoons) and mix. Set aside while we work on vegetables.

  4. Peel one head of onion and cut into small cubes.
  5. Grate the peeled and washed carrots (I took a large root vegetable) on a coarse grater.
  6. We clean half a small fork of white cabbage from green leaves and cut out the stalk. Shred the cabbage into not very thin strips.
  7. Advice. If the cabbage is an old harvest, it will need to be salted and mashed with your hands so that it becomes soft and juicy.
  8. In a deep bowl, combine cabbage, onions and carrots, add a third of a teaspoon of salt, a little black pepper and pour in two tablespoons of vegetable oil. Mix everything thoroughly.
  9. We put the vegetables in a baking bag, forming a kind of “pillow” out of them.
  10. Place meat, pieces of butter and two bay leaves on a layer of vegetables.
  11. We tie the bag, put it on a baking sheet and put it in the oven, preheated to 200 degrees, for 40-45 minutes.
  12. After this time, we take it out, cut the bag and return it for another 10 minutes so that the meat is browned. Serve on the table, sprinkled with fresh herbs.

The bags are made from heat-resistant transparent polymer film (polyethylene terephthalate) with a thickness of 12 microns and approved for contact with food. They can be safely used in microwave ovens, as well as gas and electric ovens at temperatures up to 200°C.

In them, the prepared products seem to be stewed, cooked in their own juice. For a golden brown crust at the end of cooking, you need to open the bag - I cut it in the middle with scissors and tuck the edges if it is a baking sleeve. If this is a bag that is tied at the top, then cut off the top and tuck the edges. The bags can be used for deep freezing of products and defrosting in the microwave, as well as for heating ready-made products.

Precautionary measures:

    the top of the bag with a toothpick or make small cuts with scissors to allow steam to escape.
  • Place the baking sheet with the bag in the oven so that the edges of the bag do not come into contact with the walls of the oven or open flame.
  • Cooking time for 500 g of product at 180°C:

  • If you want to prepare a dish with a crust
    , then 15-20 minutes before the end of baking, remove the baking sheet with the bag from the oven and cut it. (the package itself is not hot - be careful with the contents and steam). Then put back in the oven and finish cooking.
  • Remove the finished dish from the oven and let cool slightly. Cut the package. Carefully! Don't get burned by the steam!
  • The meat juice accumulated in the bag can be used as a sauce for meat and vegetables.

Place the package on a baking sheet and bake for 50-60 minutes. After 30-35 minutes, open the oven door and turn the bag of cabbage over to the other side. Continue baking for another 30 minutes.
