In addition to cooking in standard ways in a saucepan, you can make rice in a slow cooker. The technology differs little from the classical method. Remember that round varieties of cereal will be sticky, the rest will be crumbly and slightly dry. Pour the washed rice with water in the ratio indicated on the package. Round grains require the least amount of water, while brown and wild rice require the most water. Steaming is considered the best way. Ratio of water and rice during cooking

You should start cooking the cereal in question only after it has been thoroughly processed. To do this, rice is sorted and washed. If necessary, it can be kept in water for some time. This will speed up its heat treatment.

So what should be the ratio of water to rice when cooking? As a rule, for this you take one glass of cereal and three glasses of clean water. By the way, when cooking rice for a side dish, few housewives adhere to these proportions. This is due to the fact that many of them add water, as they say, by eye. The main thing is that there is a lot of it.

Unfortunately, housewives’ many years of experience do not always allow them to determine the ratio of water and rice by eye. This is especially true in cases where it is necessary to prepare a special dish, and not just a side dish.

Many cooks quite often have a question about what should be the ratio of rice and water for pilaf. Experts say that this value depends on what kind of dish you want: crumbly or thick. In the first case, rice with meat must be covered with a thickness of water equal to 1.5 cm. As for thicker and more viscous pilaf, in this case the liquid above the ingredients should be at a level of 3 cm.

Preparing fluffy rice:

Perhaps the only requirement for rice is that it must be long grain.

. This rice contains less starch than short grain rice, but has more fiber and vitamins.

That is, it is healthier and does not boil as much as round rice.

Measure out the rice as much as you need and pour it into a small bowl or saucepan. I usually take one glass of rice.

We rinse it several times under running water. They poured it in, stirred it with their hands, and drained the water. I do this three times, and by the third time the water is usually clear.

Place a pan of water on the fire. It should be several times more than cereal. It turns out that for a glass of rice there are about two liters of water.

When the water boils, pour the cereal into it. Stir so that the rice does not stick together, and you can add salt if necessary.

Cook for 10-15 minutes. After 10 minutes, you can catch a couple of grains of rice and check whether they are soft or not.

Attention!

Do not strictly follow the cooking time indicated on the package.

On the package that I have, it says: “cooking time 20 minutes.” Out of curiosity, I tried to cook it for so long - it turned out to be a boiled porridge.

Now put the rice in a colander and let the water drain.

That's all! The fluffy rice is ready.

And note, I didn’t have to measure anything with precision, use any special dishes, a special type of rice, cook with a lid, then without a lid, and generally bother. I love recipes like this!

By the way, did this cooking method remind you of anything? Now I thought that this whole recipe could be explained in 3 words: “cook like pasta.”

Do you know what delicious thing I made with this rice? Salad! The one with crab sticks, corn and egg.

One of the most common cereal crops on the planet is rice. The product appeared about 9000 years ago. Thailand and Vietnam are considered the birthplace of rice. In the east, cereal remains the main food product to this day. Unfortunately, for some housewives, cooking any cereal is backbreaking work. Indeed, in order for the rice to turn out fluffy and tasty, you need to take into account some factors. So how to cook rice fluffy? And how long will it take?

Three ways to cook rice

Steamed rice This method of cooking rice is the most common in India. With this method, rice absorbs not only water, but also all the spices added to it. This method requires a saucepan with a tight-fitting lid to prevent steam from escaping. If the lid does not close tightly, the rice will not cook.

To give the dish a special flavor, you can add a little lemon juice, a pinch of turmeric or a few cumin seeds, green hot pepper or a piece of fresh ginger.

Rinse the rice, soak it for 15 minutes, then drain in a colander or sieve. Pour water into a two-liter saucepan, add salt and bring to a boil. In another pan, heat the oil and fry the drained rice, stirring occasionally. When the grains become translucent, pour the rice into boiling water, increase the heat and let the water boil again. At a high boil, stir the rice for a minute to break up any lumps. Then close the lid tightly. Reduce heat to low and cook for 15-20 minutes (depending on the variety), until the rice has absorbed all the water and becomes soft and crumbly.

Boiled rice. This is the fastest cooking method, so it is best to use it in cases where you are going to mix rice with other ingredients. To do this, rice (washed) is boiled in more water than it can absorb, and then, when ready, is thrown into a colander.

Bring 2.3 liters to a boil. Salted water in a saucepan with a thick bottom. Place rice there and cook for 10 minutes. To determine if the rice is done, remove a grain and crush it with your thumb and forefinger. It should be completely crushed, the middle should not remain hard. If it is still hard, cook for a few more minutes and check again for doneness. Drain the rice in a colander, place it in a saucepan and throw a few small pieces of butter on top.

Baked rice With this method, the rice is first boiled until half cooked and then baked in the oven. This is the longest method, but it requires less attention and avoids overcooking the grains.

Preheat the oven to 150 degrees. Bring 2.3 liters to a boil. Water with salt. Add rice. Bring to a boil and cook over high heat for 4-6 minutes. Drain the rice in a colander, drain, then transfer it to a baking dish and place a few pieces of butter on top. You can also sprinkle it with milk.

Cover the dish with foil, wrap it so that it allows as little steam as possible. Place the dish in the oven and bake it for 20 minutes. When the rice is ready, the grains should swell, soften and easily separate from each other.

Let's sum it up

If you don't have a kitchen scale at hand, you can use a regular cut glass. Experts say that it holds about 200 g of dry cereal. As for liquid, this container is designed for 250 ml.
